This week is a quiet one for evening events—except for athletics! We’re starting strong with the boys basketball home opener with JV at 5:30 and Varsity @ 7pm. Don’t forget: the student section theme is White Lies. Let’s pack the gym! Please see the complete week of athletic events in your email!

The JHS Teen Health Center is open each day for your child. Please reach out to them at 5177800838. They are available for mental health, wellness, and sports physicals.

All backpacks are to be left in lockers during the school day.

Cell phones and headphones are to be kept off and away while students are in classrooms. They are allowed to use them before school, during passing time, and after school. Please remind your young person of these very important JHS policies.

We will be continuing with our hall sweeps this week. If your student is late for class, they will be taken to the small gym. You will be receiving a notification via email and text message through Minga. This is being done to promote one of our school core values of responsibility and to ensure an optimal environment for teaching and learning.

Our staff, including administrators, are busy during the day and are unable to take drop-in appointments. We understand that there are situations where you want an immediate meeting or response to have a situation dealt with. If you come to the front desk expecting to meet with a staff member, you will be asked to make an appointment to meet with the person who you would like to speak with. We appreciate your understanding and support as we look to have our school staff present and available to help students during the school day

Our after-school events, including all athletic events, are privileges for JHS students. Students who have had issues managing behavior can be barred from attending. All students who are from other schools must be accompanied by an adult age 21 or older. We have put these rules in place to ensure that our events are safe and can be enjoyed by our students, parents, athletes and coaches. If you have questions on whether your students or their friends from other schools (this includes SCMV) are allowed to attend or what they must do to attend, please contact your child’s grade-level principal.

Our day begins at 7:20am with doors open at 7:05am. Parents/guardians are welcome at the Welcome Center for questions, student pick-up/drop-off, or item deliveries. We have a closed campus and students are not allowed to leave for lunch unless parents are picking them up or they have a documented emergency or appointment, this includes during advisory times. Students are not allowed to order DoorDash or UberEats food to the school.

Do you have difficulties managing your student's use of their device while they are at school? Are you worried that they are getting on their cell phone and missing instruction or sending messages to peers that cause unnecessary stress? At JHS, we have a solution for you! Truce Mobile is a service that we are piloting for all interested families- free of charge! This serv call them in case of an emergency and also use apps that are useful in class, such as Minga. Truce can also be used while your student is driving, while they are supposed to be sleeping or if you want to protect certain hours as ‘no phone time’ at home. If you are interested, contact Mr. Zessin at 841-3703. If you want more information, watch the video that is on this week’s newsletter.

Each student’s Chromebook is their responsibility. Please remind your student to:

Keep track of their Chromebook at all times. Lost or broken devices result in repair or replacement fees.

Charge it each night so it is ready for school the next day.

Thank you for helping your students build good habits with their device!
